Message from Hon'ble Jail Minister

The Punjab State Prisons and Correctional Services Department manages and provides a safe, secure and humane environment to the prisoners by utilising a professionally-trained team of prison officials and by providing opportunities to inmates to rehabilitate and reintegrate themselves in the society as responsible citizens.

The “correctional rehabilitation ethic”  is the new ethos in the prisons now. Our Prison officers are trained to balance the needs of safe custody and discipline while facilitating the rehabilitation of inmates.

The Punjab Government now proposes to undertake a new futuristic approach in an effort to engage the community in accepting ex-offenders and their families, giving them a second chance at life and to inspire a ripple- effect of concerted community action to support the former offenders and their families.

As Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru in the book ‘Prison Lands’ had said, and I quote-

"
Any reforms must be based on the idea that a prisoner is not punished but reformed and made into a good citizen. If this objective is once accepted, it would result in a complete overhauling of the prison system.
